Basically you would do the following:

1. Click Tools, System, Configure System Defaults, General, Email, Microsoft Outlook
check the box "Enable Email with Outlook"

2. At the Party sheet you will see where you may now click the Outlook button or plus button (for attachments). Just single click on any party that you want to send an Email to and click the Outlook button. This Email will automatically be attached to the case activity (be sure to get the latest version as of today). If their Email is included on the party sheet (entered in the rolodex) then it will automatically address it to them as well as include the caption in the subject and also attach the Sent Mail to case activity. So, only incoming mail need be dragged and dropped to case activity.

Thanks for the information Michael!

Does this work with all versions of Outlook? (2000, XP, 2003, 2007) Or only?

Thanks again!

Hey Mike,

A few questions about this.

1. We've go the latest version of A1 (6.7.0A) and Outlook 2007. However, emails sent from within A1 via Outlook are not attaching to the case activity note which they generate. In other words, we still need to drag and drop the email - any ideas why this is?

2. If possible, we'd love to have emails attached to the case activity saved as PDF's instead of actual Outlook emails. Since we have Acrobat, it's possible to convert each email to PDF, then drag and drop it. However, is there any way to automate this process, so that when dragging and dropping an Outlook email it's automatically converted to PDF? Or, if sent email is automatically attached (as you said this newest version should do), can we have it automatically attached as PDF instead of in Outlook form? That may be a bit much to ask...

3. Emails sent from A1 always include a 0 KB winmail.dat file as an attachment. That's no major problem, but is there a way to prevent that from happening?

Thanks in advance for the help.

1. Please get the latest version - there was a minor bug but it has since been corrected.

2. The thing about having the exact Email is it is a "receipt" non-modified original copy. Also, when opened, one may reply to it and it contains all the information including subject, who sent it, etc. The best way to convert to pdf would be to click File, Print and print to the PDF printer.

3. That has to do with your Outlook configuration. You should be able to google that for more information (google outlook and winmail).
