A1 EAMS Forms Bug Hunting: Suggestions?

Dear Michael,

I please need your help with A1 EAMS Forms Bug Hunting.

Situation:
It is always nice to have problems that are easily repeatable. It is the ones that occur "sometimes" or "occur all day on one day but then go away" that are the most frustrating. Especially since I don't know if it is something to do with A1, our Operating Systems, or some other issue (like Adobe perhaps).

For example in regards to the EAMS forms:
Some of the staff have never had a problem using the EAMS forms. However a few staff have issues with the EAMS forms that happens now and then. One staff member couldn't use the EAMS forms (especially it seems the cover letter or separator sheets) without getting kicked out of it for a day. Next day... no problems. Other staff members have problems that occur now and then. Another staff member has experienced EAMS issues using their same A1 account while using different computer systems (on both Windows 2000 Prof and Windows XP Prof OSes).

-When this occurs should we send you the current error log files and the specific dates to see if there is anything in common with these experiences? Any other suggestions/tips?

Thanks a bunch!
Sincerely,

Michael - the key to A1-Law being able to use the EAMS forms is if Internet Explorer can properly display an Acrobat PDF file. Try doing a drag and drop of a PDF file into internet explorer (or from IE click File, Open and select a PDF). Sometimes, popup blockers, anti-virus updates, etc. can cause problems. In any large network, "uniformity is best" such that all workstations are like "clones" of eachother where they all run the same anti-virus checkers, same windows OS, etc. We came across a problem from a client about a week back where they were running IE 7 and we had to click Tools, Popup Blocker and turn it off yet on another workstation it was no problem to leave it on. The main thing to remember, is if you can view a PDF file in internet explorer then it is going to work.

From Acrobat 9 click Edit, Preferences, Internet and make sure the "Display PDF in Browser" is checked. If it works at all then it most likely is checked and something else is creating the problem (such as an antivirus or spyware program). Try (at least temporarily) turning of the popups in IE and see if that helps.

Hope that helps,
Mike

Thanks for the tips Michael. I'll give them a go this week.

Btw, is Internet Explorer 8 causing any problems with A1/Adobe Reader/Acrobat? It is currently listed as an Important Update on Windows/Microsoft Updates for Windows XP and all later Windows OSes... but we have been staying away from it (Using "Custom" (you choose) versus "Express" (select all) updates - to stick with IE 7) since it seems to have some compatibility issues with websites we use.

Thanks again!

There are no issues with A1-Law EAMS forms as long as it is properly configured so that IE 8 can view PDF documents.
