A1 Form Letter Editing: Editing Same Warning?

#1

Post by LMSSC » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:42 pm

Dear Michael,

Thanks again for the great updates!

We have come across the situation where multiple windows for the same letter being edited. This can cause problems if you save the wrong letter (which may have much less work done on it) last. Would it be possible to add some sort of warning message if you are editing a letter and open up another edit window for that same letter?

For example, if you were working on letter #80 in an Edit window and you tried to open up another Edit window for #80 you would get a warning dialogue box that you already have an Edit window on this letter open.

Thank you very much!

Just to confirm - are you referring to when someone is editing a "template" and edits more than one template at the same time?

Thanks,
Mike

That's correct... It is a template.

Previously you could only have one Edit window open at a time. Now you can have multiple edit windows open. This is nice in case you are working on editing multiple letters (or copying codes/text from one letter to another - which happens quite frequently).

However, you can also have two Edit windows of the same # template... for example two Edit A1-Law Letter #80 windows.... which can be problematic.

We would love to see a warning message if you try to open up a 2nd Edit window for a letter for which you currently have an Edit window.

For example:
1. Forms (link) - Form Letters (window) - Edit Letters (tab) - Click to highlight letter #80 - "Create, edit, and modify a form letter" (button)
2. Edit form letter details (window) - Edit (button) - Which brings up Letter "Edit A1-Law Letter #80" (number 1)
3. If you go back to the Form Letters (window), you can now repeat the process to bring up Another "Edit A1-Law Letter #80" (in this case... number 2)

Maybe either: A. A message that says that you already have an edit window up of that particular # letter and prevents you from opening up a second copy.
OR:
B. A Warning window (preferable?) that says you currently have an edit window up of this letter, Are you sure you want to do this? Y/N.

Thanks again!

Is the problem ONLY when two people try and edit the same form template letter at the same time? Technically I should just post a message that someone else is using it at this time and to try again later. Is there a problem when one user edits to different template letters at the same time or only the same template letter?

Thanks,
Mike
